It is with profound sadness that the family of Raymond “Ray” Hamilton announces his passing on February 15, 2026, at Bear Creek Terrace in Petrolia, at the age of 77.

Ray was the beloved and proud father of Nash Hamilton, and the cherished partner and best friend of Deborah Hamilton for 30 wonderful years. He is survived by his mother-in-law, Diane Ethier; sisters-in-law Betty Hamilton and Penny Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Lillian Hamilton; his father-in-law, Joseph Ethier; his siblings Gloria Hamilton, Ralph (Winnie) Hamilton, Hank Hamilton, Eva (Fred) Smith, Donna (Robert) Graham, John Hamilton, and Robert Hamilton; his sister-in-law Rebecca Ethier Carey; his brother-in-law David Ethier; his dear friend Paul Bach; and his nephew and friend Robert Graham.

Ray will be lovingly remembered for his quick wit, laid-back nature, and deep love for family and friends. He was often found sharing laughter at the Navy Club, where he met Deb, or at the Balmoral Hotel. Ray and Deb devoted many years to fostering children, opening their home and hearts to those in need. Later in life, Ray focused his greatest joy and attention on spending time with Nash, treasuring every moment together.

He loved the outdoors, relaxing, camping, and travelling, and his perfect Sunday morning included a cup of coffee while listening to country oldies. Ray spent most of his working life as an automotive parts salesman with UAP/NAPA and Benson’s Auto. He later worked briefly with the Bluewater Bridge Authority in the janitorial department before retiring.

A true fighter, Ray defied the odds after being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, living 16 more years beyond what doctors had expected. His strength and determination were an inspiration to all who knew him. Ray is now at rest, reunited with the loved ones who went before him.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Daniel for his excellent and compassionate care, and to the nurses and PSWs who provided comfort and support in Ray’s final days, keeping the family informed when they could not be present.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held on February 21, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the family home, 539 Broadway Street, Wyoming, Ontario.

In memory of Ray, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.sarniacremationservices.com.
