The Bluewater Cycling Organization is recruiting volunteers for the upcoming season of Cycling Without Age, a community program that offers free, electric-assisted trishaw rides to seniors and individuals with disabilities across Sarnia-Lambton.

The Cycling Without Age program connects residents with trained volunteers who provide safe, outdoor rides designed to encourage conversation, connection, and time in nature. The initiative is part of a pilot team operating from mid-May to early October, with rides typically scheduled Monday to Friday.
No prior cycling experience is required. Volunteers receive training, insurance coverage, and all necessary equipment, including a Cycling Without Age jersey. Flexible scheduling is offered, and volunteer hours are available for students. The program does not require weekend or statutory holiday shifts.
Organizers say participants frequently report increased happiness and improved quality of life, while volunteers describe the experience as equally rewarding. Rides are designed to promote intergenerational storytelling, shared experiences, and renewed connections to the community.
The program partners with several local senior organizations and residential communities, including Landmark Village, Rosewood Village, Village on the St. Clair, Twin Lakes Terrace and Village, Fairwinds Lodge Retirement Residence, Pineview Apartments, Community Living Sarnia-Lambton, Vision Retirement Home, the Strangway Centre, Alzheimer Society Sarnia, Lambton Elderly Outreach, and Age-Friendly Sarnia-Lambton.
Residents who live independently and are interested in becoming passengers may also request rides through the program, subject to availability. Community organizations not currently participating can inquire about partnership opportunities.
Volunteers are asked to commit to two three-hour shifts per month. Training is provided, and scheduling is arranged around individual availability.
More information about becoming a volunteer, passenger, or partner is available through the Bluewater Cycling Organization’s Cycling Without Age program.
