Lambton College is expanding its research footprint following a combined investment of more than $2.47 million from provincial and federal sources. The funding, provided through the Ontario Research Fund and the Canada Foundation for Innovation, is earmarked for critical infrastructure in biotechnology and materials innovation.

A significant portion of the investment, totaling $1.77 million, will support the college’s Biosafety Level 2 Laboratory. This facility is one of only a few certified labs of its kind and is used to study microorganisms and biological materials. The new money will be used to scale the facility and equip it for more complex research projects.

The college was also awarded $701,013 for the Canadian Material Circular Economy Syndicate. This initiative focuses on environmental sustainability and leadership in materials innovation. These investments aim to strengthen the college’s ability to collaborate with industry partners while developing a highly skilled local workforce.

Rob Kardas, President and CEO of Lambton College, described the funding as a vote of confidence in the institution’s research expertise. He noted that by strengthening infrastructure in biotechnology and the circular economy, the college is better positioned to deliver solutions that protect the region's economic resilience.

The Ontario Research Fund supports state-of-the-art infrastructure in priority sectors like advanced manufacturing and life sciences through a competitive peer-review process. The Canada Foundation for Innovation is a non-profit corporation that invests in research infrastructure across Canadian colleges and universities.
