With great sadness the Family announces that Harold passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 11, 2026, in his 95th year. He was the loving husband for almost 75 years of Marilyn Douglass who predeceased him in August of 2025 and the devoted father of Paul (Laurie) and Gary (Catherine), cherished grandfather of Shannon (Gord), Taylor (Jay), Brendan (Kara), Cherisse (Steven) and Nicholas (Lindsay) and Great grandfather to Max and Riley Douglass, Caleb, Elijah and Timmy Swarath, and Sawyer Douglass. Harold was predeceased by all of his siblings – Mary, Ed, Ron, Anna- May, Ora, Keith, Velma and his twin brother Gerald as well as his parents David and Jennie and all of his in-laws.
He was a past Business Manager and 75 year member of the Plumber and Pipefitters Union 663, and a Member of St. Lukes United Church for many years. In retirement he spent 23 years as a volunteer at Trillium Villa and together with his wife they rescued more than a few dogs and cats.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Buckton and the many wonderful staff members of Meadowview Villa in Petrolia for their unwavering kindness and care to Harold and to Marilyn in their last year of life.
A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. with family and friends being received one-hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate donations to Sarnia & District Humane Society.
