The Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K is kicking off the new year with a diverse series of presentations aimed at connecting the community with local leadership and essential services. Meetings are held every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, located at 180 College Ave. N.

The club continues to offer "hybrid" access, allowing residents to attend in person or join via Zoom. This format ensures that local seniors and residents can engage with the speakers regardless of their mobility or health status.

January Speaker Schedule

  • Jan. 6: Mayor Mike Bradley delivers the "Annual State of the City Address," providing an update on Sarnia’s current trajectory and upcoming municipal priorities.
  • Jan. 13: Constables Joyceline Paquette and Tim VanCowenberg discuss the Integrated Mobile Police and Community Team (IMPACT). This team pairs officers with mental health counsellors to support marginalized residents and de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Jan. 20: Joel Macklin of Macklin’s Farms addresses how climate change is affecting local food supplies and the global economy. Macklin will share firsthand experiences of how a warming planet challenges long-standing family farm operations in Sarnia.
  • Jan. 27: Lynn Sproviero of the Sarnia Lakeshore Optimist Club will speak on "Optimists in Action," highlighting local efforts to support youth and charitable groups.

The Golden K is one of five Kiwanis clubs in the region and part of an international network dedicated to improving the lives of children and the community. Organizers ask that anyone experiencing symptoms such as a cough or fever refrain from attending in person to protect the health of the membership.

For those joining remotely, the Zoom meeting link opens at 9 a.m. Participants can use Meeting ID 671 524 9417 and Password GKMTG to access the weekly sessions.
