The Literary Committee of the Lawrence House Centre for the Arts is shifting the focus of its digital presence to better reflect the intersection of global issues and local lives. In collaboration with Sarnians4Palestine, the centre has announced a new issue of its digital literary blog, Uproar, titled Ceasefire: A Journal From Gaza.

This upcoming issue moves beyond traditional arts coverage to feature personal recounts, poetry, and artwork created by Sarnia-Lambton residents. The contributors include those with direct personal connections to the region or a shared affinity with the ongoing struggle in Gaza.

The project marks a strategic change for Uproar. Organizers stated this offering is the first step in an intentional effort to transform the blog into a platform that reflects current issues affecting the community on local, national, and international scales.

By centring human voices over institutional statements, the collaboration aims to provide a space for residents to process the weight of the conflict through creative expression – the journal serves as a localized response to a global humanitarian crisis, prioritizing lived experience and storytelling over official narratives.

The community is invited to the official launch of the journal on January 2nd, 2025 The event will take place from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM in the Turret Room at the Lawrence House located at 127 Christina St S, Sarnia, ON N7T 2M8, coinciding with January’s First Friday festivities.

The launch event will feature a variety of cultural and reflective elements, including live readings from the journal and musical performances. Attendees will also be able to view art displays and share Palestinian food while reflecting on the ongoing effects of the conflict.

Organizers emphasize that all members of the public are welcome to attend the gathering. The initiative highlights the role of local arts institutions in fostering civic engagement and providing a venue for accountability and reflection on global human rights issues.
