A young Sarnia-Lambton patron from Lambton County Library's Clearwater location, Naina Patel, has earned second place worldwide in the 12 & Under category of the international Fiero Code Light Quest competition.

The international contest was held from October 1 to November 30 and challenged hundreds of young coders from libraries and schools globally to design a game using Code Blocks. The goal of the game was to restore light to "Planet Fiero".

Naina impressed the judges with her creativity and strong storytelling.

Vanitia Campbell, Public Services Coordinator for Youth Programs & Outreach, expressed excitement over the local achievement. "We are thrilled to see a Lambton County Library participant recognized on the world stage," Campbell said.

She added that Naina’s determination and creativity truly shone through her project. "Programs like Fiero Code help young people build confidence and develop essential digital skills, and we’re proud to support learners like her as they explore, experiment, and succeed".

Reflecting on her experience, Naina emphasized the effort behind her achievement. “I’m proud to share that I won second place in the Fiero Code Light Quest competition," she stated.

"This achievement means a lot to me – not just because of the result, but because of the effort behind it". She credited her mother for support and thanked the library for the opportunity to explore Fiero Code.

Naina concluded that finishing second "shows that persistence pays off, and it motivates me to aim even higher next time".
