Peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, Gerald Bruce Houlbrook passed away on December 16, 2025, at Bluewater Health – Sarnia, at the age of 78.
Gerald was a proud and devoted father to Robert Houlbrook (Anne Marie) and Stacy Houlbrook (Corey), and a cherished grandfather to Mikayla, Meghan, Blake, Averi, Mason, Diamond, Sammy, Maddie, and Terrel. He will also be fondly remembered by Dave (Rachel), Doug (Lorie), and Bryon. Gerald was predeceased by his parents, John and Dorothy, and by his siblings, Vi, Joyce, and Reg.
Gerald enjoyed spending time at Dempsey’s Bar and Grill, where he could often be found enjoying his favourite beverage—a bottle of Bud Light. He will be deeply missed by his beloved fur babies, Dutch, Caterac, and Wally; his grand-puppies, Isha and Hemi; and his faithful buddy, Duke.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Bluewater Health Palliative Care Unit, Gerald’s dedicated home care team, and Theresa, John, and Maggie for their compassion, care, and support.
In keeping with Gerald’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at River City Vineyard (260 Mitton St. N., Sarnia), followed by drinks at Dempsey’s Bar and Grill (121 Ontario St., Sarnia).
