Literacy Lambton expands Train Your Brain program with new grant

Funding from Sunset Community Foundation helps bring free math and reading sessions to the Greater Grand Bend area.

Literacy Lambton is preparing to bring its Train Your Brain program to more children in the region this spring, thanks to a recent $2,500 grant from the Sunset Community Foundation. The funding will support the launch of a new free program site in the Greater Grand Bend area, with sessions to be held in Thedford.

Online registration for the spring sessions opens February 9, 2026 on the Lambton Literacy website. The program is designed for students in grades three and four, offering play-based activities that help build reading and math skills while strengthening confidence in the classroom. Literacy Lambton has offered Train Your Brain at several locations throughout Lambton County, with recent schedules in Forest, Petrolia and Sarnia drawing steady participation from families.

Train Your Brain has become one of the organization’s most popular children’s programs, supported by ongoing partnerships with local community groups and donors. Families consistently report that the program gives students a clearer understanding of academic concepts and a stronger sense of self-assurance. Teachers have also noted improvements in classroom engagement among participants.

Sunset Community Foundation’s recent contribution continues a long relationship between the two groups. In 2023, Literacy Lambton received a $2,200 grant from the Foundation, which supports a wide range of community initiatives through its network of Community Funds.

Alongside its children’s programming, Literacy Lambton continues to operate its Adult Literacy Program, a free service for individuals 18 years and older who want to improve basic reading, writing, math or computer skills. Participants work with instructors in a small, supportive environment and develop personal learning plans that align with their goals. Learners can access computers, attend workshops and take part in sessions offered through community partners.

With new funding in place and registration for spring programming set to open, Literacy Lambton says it remains focused on strengthening foundational skills for local children while continuing to support adult learners across the region.
