Several months ago I sent a letter to City Council challenging the need for a new station when an engineering study had recommended the station could be upgraded to meet standards for $4.1M. I also questioned the technical ability of the SPS Council & Police Chief to challenge the Engineering Study. I further stated that they were customers and are unqualified to be involved in the design. Unfortunately, for a project of this magnitude, the city lacks in-house expertise to manage this project. Just look at all the work on our infrastructure. Further more, we never did conduct an audit on the Centennial Park fiasco which would have identified the engineering deficiencies that continue to be repeated.
I applauded the Mayor for invoking his authority to push back on the budget. But I was disgusted with those council members who once again disregarded the voice of the public and who have obviously not purchased groceries of late.
Thanks for an enlightening editorial.
