The Sarnia Police Service has created a new bargaining unit to represent its senior leadership named the Sarnia Police Senior Officers Association. The association includes all uniformed officers above the rank of staff sergeant, with the exception of the chief, deputy chiefs, senior civilian managers, and senior directors.

Plans for a senior officers association have been discussed since 2022. In 2025, the police services board and senior members worked together to develop a process to formally establish the group. The effort focused on supporting recruitment and retention while maintaining the financial sustainability of the service.

The police services board and the new association have also approved a two year collective agreement. Negotiations took place over several months and the agreement is now in effect until the end of 2027. It was developed using comparisons with similar police services across Ontario.
