At the young age of 93, and just five days after celebrating his 75th wedding anniversary, Dad died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice on Wednesday, November 19, 2025.

He is the beloved husband and best friend of Velda (née Lintott). Loving father of Charlotte (Dan) Stevens, Burlington; Pamela (Lenn) Tate, Mississauga; Katherine (Greg) Scimmi, Sarnia; Doug (Sandy), Sarnia; and Ben (Lawrie), Waterdown. Cherished Papa of Martin (Lynda) Stevens; Amy (Mario) Corbeil; late Charles Stevens; Jeff (Brittany), Jason & Mac (Stephanie) Tate; Samantha (Andrew) Scimmi-Rompf; Kyle; and Taylor (Reuben). Great-Grandpa of Parker, Bennett, Lincoln, Carter, Ryker, and Sydney. Dear brother of Paul (Leonie) Koote, Holland. Brother-in-law of Carol Smith; Jill (Ralph) Book; late Diane Naylor; late Linda Berkley; late Bart (Pat) Lintott; and Mark (Tracy) Lintott. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Len was born in Middelharnis, Goeree-Overflakkee, Holland, on January 14, 1932, to Paul and Cornelia (née Van Markenstyn). Dad often spoke about the difficult years in Holland during the war and how grateful he was to immigrate with his mother to Canada in 1946. He met and married Velda in 1950. Len spent his career at Stelco in Hamilton, hired in 1953 as a motor electrician for $1.96 per hour, retiring in 1990 as a supervisor.

After reconnecting with his dad and family in Holland, Len and Vel travelled back to rediscover his roots. They loved to travel together and spent many years as snowbirds, enjoying their annual trips to Florida. As a young man, Len played soccer and hockey, and he was a lifelong Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Blue Jays fan. He was always up for a game of horseshoes, cards, or dominoes, but his pride and joy was his 64¼ blue Ford Mustang convertible, which he spent many years restoring.

In their later years, Len and Vel moved to Sarnia. Dad enjoyed spending time at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home, helping Katherine keep the grounds pristine. He loved spending time chatting with the staff. When he wasn’t in the garden feeding the neighbourhood birds and squirrels, he was watching a game or playing cars and building LEGO with his great-grandson Carter. Throughout his life he was the energizer bunny, always active and always on the go.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kim and the amazing, compassionate caregivers at the Hospice.  You made dads last 6 days very peaceful not only for him but for the family.

Visitation will be held at the SFH – McKenzie & Blundy Chapel, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Sunday, November 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Messages of condolence and remembrance may be left at www.smithfuneralhome.ca . As an expression of sympathy and to honour dads love of animals, donations would be welcome to the Sarnia & District Humane Society,131 Exmouth St., Sarnia N7T 7W8, https://www.sarniahumanesociety.com
