The club announced the move Saturday, stating the decision was effective immediately.
Letang joined the Sting in 2021 after previously serving as head coach in Owen Sound and spending one season as a defenceman with Sarnia during the 1994–95 campaign. He leaves the organization with a record of 121-136-35.
General manager Dylan Seca said the decision followed internal evaluation and a determination that a new voice was required to support the development of a young roster. Letang had been in his sixth season as an OHL head coach and was coming off a high-profile assignment with Hockey Canada, where he led the national junior team earlier this year.
The Sting’s on-ice performance has struggled through the opening months of the 2024-25 season. Sarnia sits second-last in the West Division after 20 games with a 6-10-4 record, following recent losses to Peterborough and Ottawa.
Letang’s coaching résumé includes gold medals as an assistant with Canada’s World Junior teams and a Hlinka-Gretzky Cup title behind the bench of the national under-18 program. He also played 14 games in the NHL during a professional career that spanned more than a decade.
Assistant coaches Mason Baptista and Brayden Guy remain in place and will lead the team on an interim basis.
