Lambton College Photography program coordinator and renowned photographer Richard Beland is releasing a new coffee table book, Our Immortal Stars, Vol. 1, that chronicles his 40-year career capturing music legends and defining moments.
The 250-page hardcover volume features over 200 striking photographs, including both electrifying live performances and intimate portraits, accompanied by personal stories and essays. Beland has photographed more than 3,000 live performances, ranging from Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie to Nirvana and The Tragically Hip, whom he notably photographed more than 150 times, including their final concert in Kingston. His work has been featured in major publications such as Rolling Stone, SPIN, and Maclean’s.
“In every performance I photograph, my goal is to create an image that feels as alive as the music itself,” said Beland. “I’m grateful to share this collection and the stories that have shaped my career.”
As the Coordinator of the Photography program at Lambton College, Beland brings this extensive real-world experience to mentor the next generation of creative professionals. Rob Kardas, President & CEO of Lambton College, congratulated Beland, noting he is "an extraordinary example of the real-world experience our faculty members bring to the programs and courses at Lambton College".
Beland is celebrating the launch of Our Immortal Stars, Vol. 1 with a Book Launch and Artist Reception on Saturday, October 25, from 6–9 p.m. at Liss Gallery in Toronto’s Yorkville district.
