Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Maria Conceicao “Connie” Amaral passed away at the age of 84. Reunited with her beloved husband of 49 years Antonio (2016). Loving mother of Elizabeth Law and her husband Bradley, and Roberto Amaral and his wife Jaime, all of Sarnia. Cherished Vavó of Luke Downey, Anthony and Nathaniel Amaral, and Trisha and Maddie Law. Dear sister of Maria Pereira (late Antonio) of Sarnia, Manuel Ferreira (Zenaida) of Sarnia, Luisa Sousa (Luis) of Massachusetts, Lourdes Moreira (Manuel) of Sarnia and Jose Ferreira (Teresa) of Montreal. Dear sister-in-law of Berta Ferreira (late Jose), Gilberto Amaral (Ana) and Fatima Amaral, all of Massachusetts. Connie will be dearly missed by her close friends, and many nieces and nephews in Canada, U.S.A. and Portugal. Predeceased by her parents Ramiro Raposo Ferreira and Maria Sousa Cruz, in-laws Manuel Amaral and Maria D’Espirito Santo, sister-in-law Maria Pimental (late Manuel) and brother-in law Jose Amaral. Connie was most at home when she was around family. She was a dedicated wife and mother first and she especially loved her role as Vavó and treasured every moment with her grandchildren. She was a master cook in the kitchen who cooked enough to feed a small army, and we will miss her legendary meals. All who loved her will never forget her quiet grace and undying love and caring for them. Connie’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Parker Street Family neighbours as well as many dear friends who were a big part of her life. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kim and all the nurses and staff at Bluewater Health – Palliative Care and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home – McKenzie Blundy Chapel, 431 Christina St. N. Sarnia, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Roman Catholic Church, 390 Christina St. N. on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sarnia.
