Hosted by the Mastermind Youth Foundation, the immersive fright experience returns October 18 and 25 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 130 Mitton Street North, with two all-new, psychologically charged walkthroughs designed to test the nerves — and the minds — of even the bravest visitors.

Unlike a typical haunted house, Carnival of Chaos places guests inside unfolding stories where every decision and turn blurs the line between fiction and reality. Developed entirely by students in the Mastermind “Fright Club,” these theatrical experiences mix storytelling, live acting, and cinematic effects to create a spine-tingling sense of unease.

This year’s features — The Other Side and Day 1 — promise a disturbing depth rarely seen in local haunts. In The Other Side, visitors follow an FBI agent through crumbling walls and dark corridors, dodging criminals and confronting unspeakable horrors in a frantic pursuit of truth. Day 1 traps guests inside a quarantined hospital where the line between patient and experimenter vanishes. What begins as confusion soon unravels into sheer psychological chaos, complete with unsettling surgical scenes and moments designed to disorient and disturb.

“The goal this year was to go beyond jump scares,” said co-founder Jacques Villeneuve. “We wanted people to feel like they’re inside a movie — part of the story, not just watching it happen.”

The result is an ambitious, high-intensity production created by local youth who do everything from writing scripts to designing sets and effects. Proceeds from ticket sales support the Mastermind Youth Foundation’s robotics, leadership, and STEM programs across Lambton-Kent.

Beyond the scares, the event will also feature carnival-style concessions, witchy vendors, and sideshow attractions — all designed to capture the eerie energy of Mitton Village at Halloween. Guests are encouraged to vote for their favourite performance as part of the night’s friendly competition.

Tickets are $15 at the door, or can be purchased online. The experience is recommended for ages 10 and up, and minors must be accompanied by an adult.

With limited show dates and two immersive, mind-bending stories, Carnival of Chaos 2025 is expected to draw thrill-seekers from across the county.

“You won’t want to miss it,” Villeneuve said. “This is the kids’ vision come to life — and it’s terrifyingly good.”
