Lambton County residents will have a convenient, no-cost opportunity to safely dispose of harmful materials as the County of Lambton Public Works Department, in partnership with Clean Harbors Canada Inc., hosts a mobile Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event this month.

The one-day-only event will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the County Public Works Depot located at 6958 Townsend Line, Lambton Shores.

This collection event addresses the critical need for proper disposal of materials that pose a risk to sanitation workers and the environment.

“Corrosive, toxic, reactive and flammable materials will be collected at the mobile depot,” said Matt Deline, Public Works Manager, County of Lambton. “These items should never be placed in a regular landfill because they have the potential to injure sanitation workers and the potential to damage our environment.”

The depot will accept a wide range of hazardous items, including batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, gasoline, drain cleaners, rat poison, ammonia, paints,
oven cleaners, cleaning fluids, bleach, BBQ starter, pharmaceuticals, aerosols, oils, solvents, propane cylinders.

The depot will also accept sharps (hypodermic needles) and fluorescent lightbulbs. A special safety request has been made to residents to separate lithium batteries from all other battery types before dropping them off.

To ensure a smooth and safe process, residents are encouraged to package their waste items in disposable cardboard boxes, bags, or containers. Site staff will unload the waste in these packages, and the containers will not be returned.

Items that will NOT be accepted at the mobile depot include: PCBs, commercial, industrial, agricultural, or radioactive wastes, tires, explosives (flares and ammunition), eectronics, asbestos, or any containers weighing more than 25kg (55lb).

For more information on the event and a complete list of accepted materials, residents can visit the County of Lambton's website at lambtononline.ca/hhw or call 519-845-0801.
