Tatiana Brophy has been named the first-ever recipient of the All-Round Student Bursary, a new $5,000 award designed to support a graduating female student from L.C.C.V.I. Brophy will be using the bursary as she begins her studies in Fire Science at Lambton College.
The All-Round Student Bursary, established by donor Linda Smith, aims to recognize a student who demonstrates a balance of academic achievement and community involvement. The bursary covers costs for tuition, books, and residence fees. To be eligible, applicants must have attended L.C.C.V.I. for at least three years, be enrolling in a full-time, first-year program at an accredited college or university, and not be a recipient of the Nicol Scholarship.
The ideal candidate is described as an "open-minded, compassionate, and resilient student" with good academic standing. A key focus is on participation in school and community activities, including sports, team management, or refereeing. Priority is given to applicants with an IPRC (Identification, Placement, and Review Committee) designation.
Mike Barron, Executive Director of the Sarnia Community Foundation (SCF), which is assisting with the bursary, highlighted the importance of such awards. "Having awards like this available to students is so beneficial as costs have risen so dramatically for post-secondary education," he said.
The L.C.C.V.I. Scholarships Selection Committee reviews applications and forwards no more than three candidates to Linda Smith, or her designates, for the final decision. Once a winner is selected and provides proof of enrollment, the Sarnia Community Foundation issues the cheque directly to the recipient.
Congratulations, Tatiana Brophy, on this outstanding achievement!
