A free public webinar, "Lambton and Ontario’s Electricity Future," will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. ET, to discuss the province's energy needs and the proposed construction of new gas-fired power plants. Hosted by a coalition of environmental and health organizations, the event will highlight what they describe as "safer, cleaner, and more affordable alternatives."

With Ontario facing growing electricity demands, the Ford government's plan to build new gas plants, including two recently approved in St. Clair Township in Lambton County, has drawn criticism. Proponents of the webinar argue that these plants are a step backward, contributing to pollution and negatively impacting public health.

The webinar will feature a panel of experts from leading organizations advocating for sustainable energy solutions. They will present on renewable energy and energy storage as viable alternatives to natural gas. The featured speakers include:

  • Angela Bischoff from the Ontario Clean Air Alliance, an organization that successfully led the campaign to phase out coal power in Ontario and now advocates for a 100% renewable electricity system.
  • Dr. Mili Roy of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, a non-profit dedicated to environmental issues as they relate to human health.
  • Mike Marcolongo from Environmental Defence, a Canadian environmental organization that works to defend clean water, a safe climate, and healthy communities.
  • Allan McKeown of Climate Action Sarnia-Lambton, a local group of citizens concerned about the harmful impact of human activity on the Earth's ecosystem.

The webinar is open to all members of the public who want to learn how to power their communities while protecting their health and lowering their bills. Interested individuals can register at this link.
