LETTER: Sarnia resident draws parallels between Gaza and Holocaust resistance

In my last letter to the editor, I spoke about the famine in Gaza that has now reached stage 5. The famine caused by Israel since March 2nd, 2025, is still happening to this day (more than 5 months now). This is the cruelest way to murder an entire civilian population.  Before I return to […]

In my last letter to the editor, I spoke about the famine in Gaza that has now reached stage 5. The famine caused by Israel since March 2nd, 2025, is still happening to this day (more than 5 months now). This is the cruelest way to murder an entire civilian population.

Before I return to my topic of Gaza, let's try to put ourselves in the Palestinians' shoes. We all remember how Donald Trump threatened to occupy Canada, annex it to the U.S., and turn it into the 51st state? Imagine for a second that Trump does that. Will the U.S. be considered an occupying power by us Canadians? Then, over time, Trump builds a wall around this 51st state and bans food, water, baby formula, medicines, fuel, hospital equipment, and even baby diapers from entering this newly occupied state. The U.S. is allowed to turn our water off, bomb our land, and its soldiers are permitted to arrest anyone whenever and wherever they like, even children as young as 10 years old. What will Canada do then? What if terms like "human animals," "mowing the lawn," and "one shot, two kills" were used by the U.S. Army and its politicians for us? Will we Canadians be okay with that? And what if the other world leaders just kept watching us, taking money and benefits from the States, doing nothing to prevent this from happening, but instead providing more arms to the U.S. to kill us Canadians?

I hope Mike Carney, our esteemed Prime Minister who has lied to us about providing weapons to Israel (as I mentioned in my last letter), could imagine all of this before supplying more arms and ammunition to Israel. I wish that our Sarnia MP, Marilyn Gladu, could put herself and her family in such a situation, being called a "human animal" by the U.S., before she shows support for Israel and the IDF, who in fact have used those words, and more, for the Palestinians.

In the Nakba of 1948, Palestinians were forcefully removed from their homes. Israel became the occupying force just like the U.S. has threatened to be that for Canada. We have all heard about Hamas-a Palestinian organization that has been declared "terrorist" by world leaders. But have we heard about the Nazi-era fighters? When the people of Jewish faith were being murdered, starved, and burned alive? We all must read the "Holocaust Encyclopedia," which states the following: "Organized armed resistance was the most forceful form of Jewish opposition to Nazi policies in German-occupied Europe. Jewish civilians offered armed resistance in over 100 ghettos in occupied Poland and the Soviet Union.

The facts about the Jewish resistance can be found here:

As well as here: "The Untold Story of Jewish Resistance During the Holocaust."

Now, think hard about the similarities between those Jewish resistance fighters against the Nazis and the Palestinian resistance fighters (Hamas) against their occupiers.
