Big Brothers Big Sisters of Sarnia-Lambton is gearing up for The Big Squeeze, a county-wide lemonade stand competition taking place on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. So far, 48 local businesses have signed up to host creative lemonade stands, with a goal of surpassing last year’s record of 63 participants and $31,000 raised.

The annual event supports the organization’s mission to create communities where young people feel a sense of belonging and are empowered to reach their full potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters offers both one-on-one and group mentoring to foster connection, confidence, and growth. Across Canada, the organization includes 108 member agencies serving more than 1,100 communities nationwide.

Locally, the need for mentorship is pressing. More than 150 youth in the Sarnia-Lambton area remain on a waitlist, hoping to be paired with a Big Brother or Big Sister. Funds raised through The Big Squeeze help bridge that gap, allowing more young people to benefit from mentorship.

This year’s event is presented with support from main sponsors Mainstreet Credit Union, Mazda/Honda Auto House, and North End Appliance. Community members are encouraged to stop by participating stands during the event, taste test the lemonade creations, and make donations to support the cause. From classic tart recipes to wild and whimsical themes, each stand brings a unique twist to the competition.

Prizes will be awarded in categories such as Best Lemonade, Most Creative Stand, Most Funds Raised, and Best Overall . In recent years, businesses have gone all out with themed decorations, costumes, and even full performances.
