Teen photographers featured at Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery

Opening August 1, Stories in Focus features award-winning teen photography alongside a work from JNAAG’s permanent collection that inspired this year’s theme.

This year’s Teen Photo Contest winners will be featured in a new exhibition opening Aug. 1 at the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery.

Stories in Focus showcases the work of local teens who participated in the annual photography competition hosted by Lambton County Library, Lambton College, and JNAAG. The exhibition opens at 6 p.m., with an awards presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. It will run through Oct. 4.

The 2025 award winners are:

  • Overall Winner: Diya Duggal

  • Comedy: Ellyott Halgrove

  • Fantasy: Nancy Williams

  • Drama: Livvy Clark

Their work — along with that of 17 finalists — explores the theme Stories in Focus, which encouraged youth to communicate narratives through photographic storytelling.

Selected images will be shown alongside Blackwater Ophelia, a photograph by Canadian artist Adad Hannah from JNAAG’s permanent collection. The piece served as inspiration for this year’s theme.

“This exhibition is about encouraging young artists to find their voice and see the power of their perspective,” said Sonya Blazek, Curator/Supervisor at JNAAG. “Pairing their work with a piece from our permanent collection helps show how storytelling through photography connects artists across generations.”

Submissions were reviewed by a jury that included photographer Richard Beland, artist Tressa Keyes-Oliver, and curator Sonya Blazek.

“This contest gives teens a chance to express themselves through a creative and accessible art form,” said Vanitia Campbell, Public Services Coordinator, Youth Programs & Outreach at Lambton County Library. “Every year we are amazed at the incredible talent displayed by local teens.”
