Parade and Park Activities Start the Day
The festivities begin with the Canada Day Parade, which kicks off at 11:30 a.m. The parade will follow a scenic route starting at Colborne and Lakeshore, travelling west on Lakeshore, turning south on Christina Street, winding through Lake Chipican Drive, and finishing at Sandy Lane inside Canatara Park.
Throughout the day, Canatara Park will host a variety of attractions from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Highlights include:
Local bands and performers will keep the energy high throughout the afternoon. A formal opening ceremony, complete with speeches and a cupcake giveaway, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the park’s bandshell.
As the sun begins to set, the party shifts to Centennial Park, where programming runs from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This year’s lineup includes:
The city’s official fireworks display will light up the bay beginning at 10:00 p.m., providing a dazzling finale to the day’s festivities. If weather interferes, the show will be rescheduled for July 2 at 10:00 p.m.
To help reduce congestion, Sarnia Transit will offer free shuttle service throughout the day:
Shuttles depart from Northgate Terminal, providing convenient access for residents who wish to leave their car at home.
To promote active transportation, the City is rolling out temporary bi-directional bike lanes at two key locations, expanding the city’s cycling infrastructure for the day. Cyclists are encouraged to take advantage of this pop-up network and enjoy a car-free route to the celebrations. More details are available on the city’s Cycle Canada Day page.
While Canada Day is a time for celebration, the City is also encouraging residents to reflect on Canada’s full history, including the experiences of Indigenous Peoples. Educational resources will be shared throughout the day to promote reconciliation and awareness.
Sarnia’s Canada Day events are made possible through funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Celebrate Canada Program. Additional support comes from local organizations and volunteers who help bring this annual tradition to life.
