The Moore Museum is all aboard for another memorable Model Train Day, set for Sunday, July 6, 2024. Running from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., this family-friendly event invites visitors of all ages to explore the charm of model railroading—just 25 minutes south of Sarnia at 94 Moore Line in Mooretown.
This year’s event marks a special milestone: the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. To commemorate the occasion, the museum will debut 50 new military models, including 30 military vehicles and 7 warships, integrated throughout the day’s displays. Visitors will see three trains running with military loads, a miniature 1/48-scale military museum, and a newly “Anglicized” layout depicting wartime Britain.
There’s plenty of action for younger engineers too. Thomas the Tank Engine and another kid-friendly train will be available for hands-on operation. And for those looking to test their railroading skills, an HO scale NMRA switching layout will offer guests the chance to try their hand at shunting rail cars.
Additional displays include finely crafted woodworks by the Triple-C Carvers of Sarnia and large-scale aircraft models courtesy of the Bluewater R/C Flyers.
Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children. With six operating layouts, historical themes, and interactive fun, Model Train Day promises to be a vibrant tribute to both rail history and military remembrance.
