It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Evans (née Shaw) on June 13th, at home, with her loving husband of 60 years by her side. Anne was born on May 21st, 1942, in Salford, Greater Manchester, England.
Anne will be deeply missed by her devoted husband Ken, and their children Kathryn (Jeff), Andrea (Drew), and David (Victoria). She was a cherished grandmother to Jake (Lindsay), Wyatt, and Frida, who brought her immense joy.
Anne also leaves behind family in the United Kingdom, including her brothers Robert and Frank (Irene), as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Annie and Robert Shaw, and her brother David Shaw.
Anne grew up in a close-knit family. One evening, while dancing at the Ritz, she met the love of her life, Ken. They were soon married and began a new chapter as a family of five. Alongside raising their children, Anne worked full time, her exceptional secretarial skills always in high demand.
Anne had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed hiking and camping across the UK and Europe. In 1982, the family embarked on a new journey, emigrating to Canada and settling in Sarnia. There, Anne and Ken shared their passion for ballroom dancing with the community. Together, they founded Footsteps and taught ballroom and sequence dancing for over 30 years. Anne formed many cherished friendships through dancing.
In Sarnia, Anne also found her dream job working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in the Social Work Department. She and Ken loved to travel and made several crossings of the Atlantic aboard the QEII, dancing the nights away.
Anne faced her six-year battle with ovarian cancer with remarkable courage and strength. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the many healthcare professionals who supported her during her illness — especially those at the London and Sarnia cancer clinics, palliative care, and Care Partners. A special thank you to Dr. Kim, Dr. Yoshida, Nurse Bernie, and the many wonderful PSWs, especially Anne and Olga, for their compassionate care.
Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held directly following the visiting at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sarnia, following the service.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Ovarian Cancer Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
