Running July 28 to August 1, the camp offers interactive math activities for students in Grades 1 to 6, combining learning with play in a supportive setting.

Math Plus Tutors is once again partnering with the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) to host its third annual MPT Math Camp — a weeklong summer program that aims to help children build confidence, have fun, and connect math to the world around them.
Running from July 28 to August 1 at the Math Plus Tutors Learning Centre on Mitton Street, the camp features two groups: Camp Alpha for Grades 1–3, and Camp Gamma for Grades 4–6. The full-day program (9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) blends hands-on math activities with outdoor play, games, and problem-solving challenges.
Math Plus Tutors founder Dr. Sahar Nasr says the camp was inspired by her own childhood love of the subject — and by a desire to counter the widespread stigma surrounding math.
“Looking now at the stigma attached to math learning, I can’t imagine how this situation evolved,” said Nasr. “It’s not helping anyone and will later translate into a generational hate for math. That’s what inspired me to promote math learning in our community.”
The CMS supports the camp with funding and curriculum resources. Nasr said about 40 to 50 families have benefited from the program since it began in 2023.
Subsidy applications for this year’s camp are open until May 31, with up to 100% of fees covered for eligible families. Priority is given to those with low income, and applicants can apply through the Math Plus Tutors website. Recipients will be announced shortly after the deadline.
Nasr says the camp focuses on making abstract math ideas feel real and relevant — whether students are seeking extra help or looking for a challenge.
“Some campers were surprised that math wasn’t boring,” she said. “They learned about place values through a game of chance, and explored fractions by following a recipe. They had a lot of fun without realizing they were learning.”
Registration for MPT Math Camp 2025 is open now. For more information about the camp or to apply for a subsidy, visit Math Plus Tutors.
