‘A Gift of Music’ to celebrate 100 years of the United Church of Canada

An evening of music, history, and celebration will mark the United Church of Canada’s 100th anniversary at Grace United Church on June 7.

Local United churches are inviting the community to “A Gift of Music,” an evening of music, memories, and celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the United Church of Canada.

The event takes place Saturday, June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Grace United Church, 990 Cathcart Blvd. in Sarnia. Tickets are $15 and available through Grace United Church (519-542-1203), Dunlop Central United Church (519-337-3061), or at the door.

Organized by members from three United churches in the area, the program includes performances by soloists, duets, quartets, church choirs, and a mass choir — with musicians coming together from across Lambton County.

Alongside the music, guests can expect a look back at the church’s history in Canada and its roots in the local community. And yes, there will be cake.

The United Church of Canada was officially formed on June 10, 1925, when the Methodist Church, the Congregational Union, and most Presbyterian congregations came together — the first union of its kind across denominations. Today, it remains the largest Protestant denomination in the country.
