The St. Clair River Run is officially back for 2025 and will take place on June 1 at Brander Park in Port Lambton. This year, the organizers are going the extra mile—literally—by adding a half marathon to the roster of race distances.
Originally launched in 2009, the St. Clair River Run quickly became a favourite among runners from across Southwestern Ontario, praised for its stunning waterfront route along the St. Clair River and its deep community spirit. The event ran successfully for ten consecutive years before it was forced to shut down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Michelle Maitland, one of the event organizers, is thrilled to bring the run back to the community. “We’re so excited to return and even more excited to introduce the new half marathon distance for 2025,” she said. “This year’s race will include a 5K, 10K, a Minnows Run for the kids, and now the half marathon as well. We’re really aiming to make it our biggest year yet.”
Organizers are hoping to draw over 500 participants for this year’s event, and anticipation is already building among local runners. Maitland credits the ongoing support of the St. Clair Township for making the event possible. “They go above and beyond every year to make sure the run is safe, scenic, and welcoming to participants,” she noted.
But the St. Clair River Run isn’t just about fitness. It’s also about community impact. Proceeds from the event will support local organizations including Project Mental Wellness—a non-profit focused on mental health education and support—as well as local food banks serving St. Clair Township.
“This run isn’t just about crossing the finish line,” said Maitland. “It’s about coming together as a community, supporting local causes, and celebrating wellness in all its forms.”
Among the returning participants and sponsors is Dr. Danielle Quinn, a local chiropractor and dedicated volunteer. Dr. Quinn has been involved with the River Run previously and is especially excited about this year’s event.
“I believe in giving back and supporting the community of St. Clair Township,” she said. “Knowing that the money raised goes directly back into the community is incredibly meaningful. It supports local initiatives, programs, and future projects that matter. Being involved in this event brings me joy and a sense of unity. I’m especially excited to run this year because of the new half marathon distance. It’s one of the most scenic, beautiful runs I’ve ever done.”
The scenic beauty of the course is often cited as one of the highlights of the event. Runners will trace the picturesque shoreline of the St. Clair River, a route that is as mentally refreshing as it is physically rewarding. Add to that the cheers of local spectators, volunteers lining the course, and the palpable sense of community spirit, and it’s no wonder why so many are eager for the River Run’s return.

As the countdown to June 1 begins, the St. Clair River Run is more than a race—it’s a celebration of resilience, wellness, and community. Whether you’re running your first 5K or tackling the new half marathon challenge, this year’s event promises to be something truly special.
