Winter birds and the power of fresh water

Winter bird video: The power of fresh water

Even in freezing temperatures, birds need fresh water for drinking and preening to maintain healthy feathers and body heat. This heated birdbath keeps water from freezing, creating a vital resource for local wildlife. See goldfinches in winter plumage, chickadees, a striking female Red-bellied Woodpecker, a Downy Woodpecker, and House Finches gather to drink and refresh themselves. A simple setup like this brings nature closer while supporting birds’ survival through winter’s harshest conditions.
