It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Franklin Chipman on December 10, 2024. Surrounded by his loving family and with the love of his life, Dianne, by his side, Gord left us during his favorite time of the year, a season in which he spread immense joy and love to everyone around him. Gord came from a large family of eleven and, as one of the eldest, took on the privilege of helping to raise and support his younger brothers and sisters. He would go out of his way to support them, often stopping by their workplaces just to see how their day was going. Gord was a beloved figure in his community, known for his long tenure at Suncor and his dedicated volunteer work with minor hockey. After retirement, he found joy in driving for the Red Cross, even through Covid, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and he took great pride in supporting the Salvation Army, bringing Christmas cheer to dozens of children over the years. Gord had a passion for woodworking and spent countless hours crafting with his wife. His creations were highly sought after, and people would often ask for his beautifully crafted pieces. He was meticulous in his work, ensuring that every piece was perfect and brought joy to those who received them. Poppa, as his grandchildren called him, loved to watch them grow and thrive. His house was affectionately known as "Poppa Daycare," where he could usually be found in the stands at soccer, baseball, or taekwondo events, or just bringing them out for breakfast at his favorite restaurants. He loved talking about his grandchildren and what they were doing, often bragging about how good they were and how proud he was of them. Austin, his eldest grandchild, was his best buddy, and they always enjoyed going out together for breakfast, sharing stories and laughter. A die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Gord never missed a game or an opportunity to discuss his favorite team. His passion for hockey was infectious, and his sons followed in his footsteps, with two of them proudly supporting the Maple Leafs. Gord's enthusiasm for the sport brought his family closer together, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime. Gord's legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his community will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a local hero, and his spirit will continue to inspire us all. His dedication to helping others, his love for his family, and his passion for life have left an indelible mark on everyone he touched. Gord's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his impact on the community will be felt for generations to come. Gord leaves behind his wife Dianne; children Shane (Val), Kenny (Tara), Craig (Julie), Bill (Nora); and grandchildren Austin, Tabby, Nathan, Zayden, Katie, Halee. Also survived by his siblings Wayne (Pat), Bill(Val), Debbie(Les), Jay(Jane), Bryda(Steve), Craig(Michelle), Sandi, Wendy, Brain and sister in law Jan and their families, and the O'Grady family Wayne(Maureen), Greg(Sue), Mark, Colleen and lots of nieces, nephew and cousins. Predeceased by his parents William and Caroline, brother Gary and brother in law Bryne. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to the Sarnia & District Humane Society. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
