In today’s digital age, flooded with Artificial Intelligence (AI)-generated content, it is more important than ever before to have the skills needed to critically evaluate what people read, see, and hear, particularly online.
Media Smarts defines media literacy as: “the ability to critically, effectively and responsibly access, use, understand and engage with media of all kinds.”
Libraries, as trusted sources of information, play an important role in combating misinformation (incorrect or misleading information), disinformation (false information intended to deceive), and malinformation (exaggerated information that misleads) and help people develop the critical thinking skills needed to confidently navigate the digital landscape.
During Ontario Public Library Week, Lambton County Library is offering free media literacy programs to help people of all ages develop critical thinking skills for the digital age. Register online at lclibrary.ca or by calling your local library to reserve your spot! Here’s a look at the lineup:
