Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Bluewater Health, Sippie Scholtens passed away at the age of 90, 1 day shy of his 91st birthday. Beloved husband of the late Mariette Scholtens (2015). Cherished father of Vickie Scholtens and Luann Quinn. Much-loved gramps of Derek (Bianca), Kyle (Cathie) and Shawn and loving great-gramps to Peyton and Deklyn.
Predeceased by his brother Ties (Lida) Scholtens and by his sisters-in-law Cecile (Harry) McFadden and Islaine (Grant) Montgomery.
Sippie was very involved in sports, as a player and coach manager. He was inducted into the Wallaceburg, Chatham, and Sarnia Sports Halls of Fame. He was the Vice-President of the Allan Cup winning Petrolia Gibbons Squires in 1979 and 1981. Sippie organized and managed the Blackwood Gordon Softball team that won many Ontario Michigan league championships. He was a long time executive member of the Bluewater Softball league and served as an Ontario amateur softball association convenor. In 1974 Sippie was the manager of the Sarnia Bopra Junior Softball team and won the Ontario Championship.
Sippie was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed fishing with his three grandsons. He was an owner in the Ellerker hunt camp where he looked forward to his annual hunting trips. He would spend hours at the Wawanash Wetlands. He was a member of the Bluewater Anglers, and a long time volunteer at the Point Edward Hatchery.
Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia District Humane Society or the Bluewater Anglers (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
