With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Mario De Carolis announce the sudden passing of a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather on Saturday, April 27, 2024 surrounded by loving family at Bluewater Health, at the age of 87.

Beloved and devoted husband to the late Annita De Carolis (1992). Loving father to the late Tony De Carolis (2016) (Yolanda) and Elena Pagotto (Henry). Cherished Nonno of Melissa Lefebvre (Jeff), Eric De Carolis (Elizabeth), Vanessa, Christiano, Carina and Julia Pagotto. Treasured Great Grandfather of Charlize and Anjolie Lefebvre. Mario was pre-deceased by his parents Alberico De Carolis and Erminia De Carolis, his siblings his late brother Elio De Carolis (Giuseppina), and his sister the late Immacolata De Carolis. Mario is survived by his sister Maria Alfonsi (Giuseppe) in Sora, Italy and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly in Canada, Italy and France. Mario was born in Vicalvi, Italy and was very proud of his roots. He immigrated to Canada in 1957 and lived in Windsor before settling in Sarnia. Mario began his career working odd jobs in construction. Mario persevered because he had future goals for himself and his family establishing two successful companies from the ground up: De Carolis Construction Pro-Concrete. Mario’s greatest love was his beloved family. He loved and treasured them to his last day. He instilled the importance of family, perseverance, family heritage and hard work to all his children and he led by example. He was a strong man with a great mind. Although he had many health challenges, he took them all in stride to the very end and now he is reunited with his wife Annita and his son, Tony and all his deceased family.

Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church, Bright’s Grove, on May 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy.
