Peacefully, in the early hours of April 25th, 2024, Reg passed away after a triumphant 96.5 years.
Cherished Dad of David De Shane (Rebecca), Samantha Kabala (Al) and Erica Tremblay (Matthew). Loving Grandad of Kyraith Wright (Colin), Darius De Shane, Lilly Tremblay, and Kate Tremblay. Dear big brother to Janet Shaw (David). Predeceased by his wife Barbara (Wendy) Heasman, brothers Ted Heasman and John Heasman and sister Beatrice (Toby) Crispin. Remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
Reg was born in Sussex, England in 1927 at home in the modest apartment that sat on top of his family’s candy shop. He was a proud student of Stenning Grammer School and later the University of London where he earned an advanced degree in Physics. Reg was an adventurer and began his working life as a scientist in India. After travelling to the east, he set his sights west and landed at Ellis Island, New York in 1957. He traveled throughout the US and Canada and ultimately secured a job at Polysar in Sarnia. He would spend most of the rest of his life in Sarnia with brief moves to Mexico City, Port Hawkesbury – Cape Breton and Ottawa.
Reg enjoyed his work, but his true passions were the organizations that he donated his time and enthusiasm to. Reg was a committed volunteer for many years to Junior Achievement, The John Howard Society, The Chamber of Commerce, Pensioners Concern and most significantly to Community Living Sarnia Lambton.
Reg was adored by his family. His kids and grandkids appreciated and respected his thoughtful advice and guidance, always promoting a strong work ethic, resilience, and a positive attitude. Reg was physically and mentally well and happy to his very last day. He was grateful for the time and love that he had enjoyed with his family and friends. Reg will be deeply missed but his legacy will carry our aching hearts forward.
