On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at C.E.E. Hospital Continuing Care and surrounded by love, Anny (nee Pazier) Franz went home to her beloved husband Andreas (1978).
Anny was the much-loved mother of Lori-Anne (the late David) Vokes and Sylvia (Sandy) Bunker. Proud Oma of Allanah and Shannon (Kevin) Vokes, and Gregory (Ramya), Robert (Jacquie), Andrea, and Alexandra (Mauro) Bunker. Great Oma of Cecilia. Dear sister of Rosa (Klaus) Frinken. Very special Anny Tante to Dorie (Frank) Bartelen along with Gerhard (Theresa) Franz, Elly (George) Powell, Christine (the late Lorne) Lambert, Marlene (Hugh) Lee, and Verena (Alex) Frinken. Anny was a friend to many including longtime friends Martha Szabo, Adelheid Ruettimann, and Sharon Leyes.
Anny was born on May 6, 1934 in Apatin, Yugoslavia near the Danube River, to ethnic German parents, Johann and Rosina Pazier. Anny was a proud Donauschwabe. She spent several years as a girl in a concentration camp before escaping with her mother, younger sister, and grandmother, with the help of her uncle. They made their way to Germany where she spent time in a convent, went to business school, and after graduation worked in fashion in the big city. One day, she went to visit Anna Franz, another Donauschwabe from Yugoslavia. She saw a picture of Anna’s son and knew right away that he was the one. She became penpals with him and they soon became engaged. He took the boat from Canada to Germany and two weeks later, they were wed. They took the boat back to Canada and arrived with very little but big dreams, an even bigger work ethic, and love for each other. Together, they built Andran Poultry Limited.
Anny loved plants and was a gifted gardener. Her flower beds back in the day were a sight to behold. Anny was also a phenomenal cook. She was known for her hospitality and many enjoyed hours of conversation, coffee, and her wonderful baked goods in her living room over the years.
We will be forever grateful for the care and kindness extended to Anny by Dr. Moon, the nurses and staff of C.E.E. Hospital, and her PSWs at home.
Visitors will be received on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Wyoming Chapel of Needham-Jay Funeral Home, 650 Broadway St., Wyoming where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
