It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheilah Dianne Averill on January 18th, 2024, at Bluewater Health. Sheilah, aged 78, was surrounded by the love of her family as she embarked on her final journey. Dianne, as she was affectionately known, was a beloved Mother to Victoria Huggett nee Laliberté, Sherry Martineau, along with Step-Son’s Pierre Laliberte and Aidan Fitzgerald. Her nurturing spirit extended to her role as a Loving Grandmother to Matthew Huggett (Natasha), Jacob Huggett, Sara Price, and Trenholme Price. Dianne's warmth and love will forever be cherished by her family. She was a Beloved Sister to Quentin Averill (Susan), Stephen Averill, and Michael Averill (Carol), and she held a special place in the hearts of her many nieces and nephews. Dianne was predeceased by her spouse Patrick Fitzgerald, her parents Lincoln & Kathleen (Kay) (nee Walsh) Averill, and her Sister in Law Carolyn Averill. Their memories will forever be entwined with hers, creating a tapestry of love and remembrance. Cremation has taken place, honoring Dianne's wishes. A private graveside service will be held to celebrate her life in a manner befitting her desires. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, January 24th, 2024, from 6-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that expressions of sympathy be conveyed through donations to Noelle’s Gift to Children (cheques only at the funeral home, please). Dianne had a heart for children, and this gesture would honor her legacy in a meaningful way. Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home.
