The Chatham Maroons continue to have the Legionnaires’ number as the Maroons pulled out a 6-3 win at home, their third win in as many games with Sarnia this season.
With the win, Chatham leads the season series 3-0 and has a 16-3-2-0 record against the Legionnaires in the last five seasons.
Despite opening the scoring with Ayden Hakkers’ fourth of the season just under five minutes into the game, Chatham would take control leading 2-1 after the first period.
The Maroons took charge after giving up the first goal, outshooting Sarnia 18-10 in that opening period. Blaine Bacik and Josh Cleary scored for the Maroons.
The second period the Maroons opened up their lead, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes to go ahead 4-1.
The Legionnaires would show some fight however, cutting the Maroons lead to 4-3 as Cameron Graham would net his sixth of the season; Colton Graham with an assist on that goal at the 16:13 mark of the period.
Matthew Anderson would score his second of the season with just 1:30 left in the second, to pull Sarnia within one. Ryan Richardson and Jimmy Monks had the assists.
Chatham would answer back immediately though, as just 11 seconds later David Brown picked up his fourth of the season to put Chatham ahead 5-3.
The third period would see just one goal that came late in the period as Aidan Edwards scored his third of the season into an empty net to seal the deal for Chatham 6-3.
Legionnaires goalie Jack Martin got the start in this one, and certainly had a busy night as he faced 40 shots, stopping 35.
Sarnia now looks ahead to Thursday night at the Pat Stapleton Arena as the look to snap a two game slide against the Komoka Kings. This is the second meeting of the season, with Sarnia winning the previous one 6-4.
