Sarnia Sting extended their win streak to two games, after a 6-3 win in Windsor Saturday afternoon. Nick Surzycia got the start in net for Sarnia, stopping 26 shots in the win.
Windsor opened the scoring with just four seconds left in the first period; Oliver Peer gave the Spitfires the 1-0 lead on his second of the season, and the Sting would trail after one period.
Colton Smith’s second of the season lifted the Spitfires to a two goal lead just over five minutes into the second. Sarnia would cut that lead in half after Tyson Doucette scored on the power play, with just over three minutes left in the second. Cooper Way and Ryan Brown assisted Doucette’s fourth of the season, and the Sting would head to the third trailing 2-1.
The third period was all Sarnia, as the Sting would score twice within the first two minutes of the final frame. Ryan Brown scored his first career OHL goal just 1:33 into the third, Jacob Leblanc and Mitch Young had the assists. Just 27 seconds later, Lukas Fischer scored his second goal of the season, unassisted to give Sarnia it’s first lead of the hockey game, 3-2.
The Spitfires would battle back; Cole Davis scored his first of the season to even it up at 3-3, 8:07 into the third. This would be as close as Windsor got, as the Sting would score three unanswered before the end the third period.
Andrew LeBlanc would put the String back in front just four minutes later, his first of the season, assisted by Jacob LeBlanc and Roman Kukemberg. Just under two minutes later, Marko Sikic’s fifth of the season here put the Sting ahead 4-3. Sandis Vilmanis had the lone assist on the powerplay goal.
Daylen Moses would add an unassisted, shorthanded goal at the 18:59 mark of the final period, his second of the season. Sarnia would finish the game with the 6-3 win, improving to 3-2-0 this season, and extending their win streak to two games.
Windsor struggled with the man advantage, missing on all four of their chances, while Sarnia converted twice on six powerplays.
Sting are idle until Friday October 13th, when they play host to the Flint Firebirds at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena, puck drops at 7:05. Tickets are available online at sarniasting.com, or at the box office.
