The Sarnia Imperials almost capped their best season of the modern era with a Northern Football Conference championship, but fell in the end just short.
The defending champion GTA All Stars came up big when it counted on Aug. 20 to edge Sarnia 29-21 in the league final before a partisan crowd at Norm Perry Park.
Nevertheless, Sarnia did pick up some hardware, winning five of the nine league awards and having six players named to the all-star team.
Quarterback Pat Wright was named the NFC’s most valuable player, as well as offensive player of the year.
Josh Wright was rookie of the year, and named special teams player.
And Ryan Lounsbury won the scoring leader title.
Wright and Lounsbury were also named to the first all-star team, along with Kevin Allaer (as both punter and kicker) punt returner Josh Wright, defensive lineman Cody Burt and defensive back Kevin McMillian.
