Sarnia’s ARTZscape by the Bay fine art and artisan juried show continues to grow.

The outdoor event running Aug. 20-21 on the Centennial Park waterfront has added a host of new events for the 2016 edition.

“It’s getting bigger and better,” said event chair Sandi Grimshaw. “We have different levels of talent. It’s very unique.”

This year will mark a first appearance by officials from Festival and Events Ontario, which promotes events around the province.

“It’s a real coup for a city the size of Sarnia,” Grimshaw noted. “It’s quite an accomplishment as they have never been here before. It’s great we are on the stop.”

A theatre troupe from Toronto, which performs acts similar to those of Cirque de Soleil, will take to the stage both days of the show, Grimshaw said.

Chainsaw artist Mike Winia of London will also create a buzz with his woodcarving talents.

New music is also on the agenda with local band Gypsy Flats and the Bruce Dean Jazz Trio performing.

Grimshaw said close to 100 exhibitors are expected. Artists must submit five samples of their work to qualify for the show.

“We’re really, really pleased with the quality,” she said, noting more exhibitors could be added but organizers want to keep an intimate, “boutiquey” atmosphere.

Another new twist, Grimshaw said, is an increase in exhibits from artists who home décor pieces that clearly popular in the Sarnia market.

“It’s a little different than just crafts.”

Grimshaw jokes she’s a “wannabe artist” who enjoys hanging out with the interesting array of creative people who exhibit and attend.

This year’s show is split into three areas in the park, including a North Village Woods, the Promenade and the South Village Gardens.

ARTZscape by the Bay is free but donations are welcome.

The show run Saturday, Aug. 20th from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and

Sunday, Aug. 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As in past years, all proceeds benefit the Pathways Health Centre for Children.
