Council has spiked the city hall newsletter mailed twice annually to homes following a report that concluded it’s an expensive and ineffective way to inform residents about municipal business.
A recent survey found that most people currently get their information on city issues from radio and newspapers, and that social media would be a more effective method than a newsletter.
The Sarnia Citizen will be replaced with an online publication spotlighting not-for-profit organizations, council decisions, initiatives and upcoming events.
Its cancellation will save about $15,000 a year in printing and mailing costs, although the city is also planning to hire a communications person at some future date.
