The Sarnia Sting have sent a clear message to the faithful.
They’re going for broke this season.
The Sting acquired Travis Konecny and Sam Studnicka from the Ottawa 67’s on Wednesday for
Sasha Chemlevski, Chase Campbell and a many as ten draft choices.
It’s a homecoming of sorts for Konecny who hails from Clachan, near Bothwell. He was the first overall choice in the OHL Priority Selection in 2013 from the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, where he as a teammate of Sting goaltender Justin Fazio.
Studnicka, a one-time Chatham Maroon, was originally a fifth-round pick of the Windsor Spitfires in 2011 and traded to the 67’s two years later.
Konency, just back from playing for Team Canada at the World Junior tournament, has seven goals and 38 assists this season for Ottawa and has amassed 62 goals and 183 points in 152 games with the 67’s.
He was a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL draft last summer.
Studnicka has 16 goals and 26 points in 31 games with Ottawa this season.
The Sting also received Ottawa’s third round draft pick in 2016.
Chemlevksi, the Sting’s first round selection in the OHL Priority Selection last April, has nine goals and eight assists in 29 games this season and is a plus ten.
Campbell, a former third round pick, had two goals in 16 games for the Sting this season.
The Sting also gave Ottawa 10 draft picks between 2016 and 2022, two of which are conditional.
Five are second rounders; three are third round selections and two in the fifth round.
