Dust that swept across the St. Clair River and over Sarnia following the implosion of the Marysville power plant did not contain asbestos, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change says.

Spokesperson Kate Jordan said nothing hazardous was found in the samples taken from two homes following the Nov. 7 implosion.

“It was typical background dust fall,” she said.

Hundreds of people lined the shoreline at the Aamjiwnaang First Nation to watch the dramatic event. The resulting cloud of dust and soot stayed inside property boundaries on the U.S. side but rolled across the river at the crowd.
