Dog owners are being warned to keep pets away from the park unless they’ve been vaccinated for canine parvovirus.
“Parvo” is spread from dog to dog by direct or indirect contact with feces. Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever and bloody diarrhea. Infected dogs often have a distinctive odour.
A stray dog found in Canatara earlier this month had to be euthanized after being diagnosed.
The disease is usually fatal but can be treated in veterinary hospital if detected early enough.
Canine parvovirus does not infect humans.
City hall has erected warning signs at the park.
