Shipping traffic has been backed up in southern Lake Huron because sections of the Great Lakes are still covered in ice.
As many as half a dozen freighters can be seen some days parked in the lake, waiting for a chance to head north into the upper lakes.
The shipping season was late starting this year and Lake Superior remains about two thirds frozen.
Here, the Vikingbank of Delfzijl sails into Lake Huron as ships wait for ice conditions to improve.
The upper lakes may not be completely ice-free until mid-May, U.S. researchers say.
