Teacher’s legacy lives on

A group that provides fruit and vegetables to more than 6,000 local students has received a $10,000 boost from Noelle’s Gift.

The gift will reduce the funding gap at 37 student nutrition programs run by volunteers at local schools, said Leslie Palimaka, a co-ordinator with Lambton Public Health.

The average healthy snack costs $1 while Ontario provides 14 cents per student, she noted.

Noelle’s Gift was established in memory of Noelle Paquette, a Sarnia-area kindergarten teacher killed in January 2013.

A man and a woman charged with her murder are still before the courts.

Numerous fundraisers continue to benefit the foundation that was created in her name.
