Lambton County Library launches Library by Mail service

After a two-year pilot serving nine patrons, Lambton County Library is opening its Library by Mail service to all eligible cardholders — delivering books, audiobooks, DVDs, and more straight to their mailbox via Canada Post.

After piloting its Library by Mail service since 2024, Lambton County Library is officially opening the program to all library cardholders with an accessible category membership.

The service allows eligible patrons to borrow materials in a wide range of formats — regular print, large print, multilingual, and ESL books, as well as audiobooks, DVDs, and magazines — all delivered directly to their mailbox through Canada Post. Each package includes a prepaid, pre-addressed return envelope, making the process as easy as possible for those who face barriers to visiting a branch in person.

"Lambton County Library has piloted this Library by Mail Service to nine patrons over the last two years," said Darlene Coke, Manager of Library Services. "Now that we have had a little more experience with the logistics related to operating this service, we are pleased to be able to publicly launch the service and to continue our work removing any barriers to people accessing library service in Lambton County."

Accessible library memberships are available to those who cannot visit a physical library location due to a disability, medical condition, or lack of transportation. Once registered, patrons can reserve items through the library's online catalogue, its mobile app, or by phone. Staff are available to help with reservations at 1-866-324-6912 ext. 5900, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. When reserving, cardholders should select "Library by Mail" as the pickup location.
