Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Afton Park Place, Maria Eugenia Ricardo passed away at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Antonio Jose Raposo (1962). Loving mother of Anna (the late Manuel) Cunha. Cherished grandmother of Dianna (John) Proctor and their daughter Wren, and by Mark Cunha. Much loved sister of the late Antonio (Maria) Pereira, Ana (the late Jose) Vieviros, Joao (Leonor) Ricardo, Natalia (the late Jose) De Sousa, Maria (Manuel) Dos Anjos Costa, and Jose (Melody) Pereira. Predeceased by her parents Antonio and Maria. Maria will be missed by her extended family, nieces, nephews, and all those who loved her in Canada, the Azores, and Venezuela.
In 1970, Maria moved to Canada from Portugal. She loved to cook both for family and for work through her lengthy career as a baker with International Bakery. She was a talented gardener and spent many hours caring for her beautiful gardens. Above all, Maria’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and will be remembered as having the kindest heart that any child could ever want from their mother.
Family and friends will be received at SFH- McKenzie Blundy Chapel, 431 Christina St. N, Sarnia, on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 1011 Oak Ave., Sarnia, on, Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
