It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Clairmont Tanguay at Bluewater Health on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the age of 86, following a battle with cancer. Predeceased by his wife Paulette (2022) after 62 years of marriage. Father of Michele Plant (Terry), Richard Tanguay (Helen), Nicole Grimaldi (Steve Williams) and Monique Hansford (Larry). Grandpa to Paul, Katherine (Ben), Sarah, Jessica, Guy (Ashley), Lucas, Shane (Carley). Great grandpa to Camryn, Maya, Harper, River and Ava.

Paul was born in Northern Quebec across the border from New Liskeard. The passing of his mother when Paul was young resulted in him being taken in and raised by the Duschene family and moving to New Liskeard. It was there that he met his future wife Paulette and they were married in 1959. After the birth of their children, the couple made the tough decision to move south to secure a better future for the family. They ended up settling in Sarnia during the boom of the sixties in Chemical Valley where his carpentry skills were put to good use with the Sarnia Carpenter’s Union. As things slowed down in the Valley, Paul and Paulette decided to open a family business MET Woodworking where they produced custom cabinetry for over 30 years. Examples of Paul’s master carpentry skills can still be seen in homes and commercial buildings around Lambton County. After retiring from Local 1256, Paul spent his days doing odd jobs as well as maintaining his residence and gardens. He was particularly proud of his vegetable gardens, and harvest time meant full family participation under his watchful eye. Nothing was ever wasted on his watch.

The Tanguay Family would like to thank Dr. Kim, Dr. McDonald and the 5th floor staff at BWH for their care and compassion during this difficult time. A private celebration of life will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to your charity of choice or planting a tree in Paul’s honor (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
