The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership is accepting applications for its 2026 Starter Company Plus program, offering grants up to $5,000 and expert mentorship to local business owners.

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) has announced the 2026 return of the Starter Company Plus program, a competitive initiative providing local business owners with training and potential funding. Applications for the program, which is delivered through the Business Enterprise Centre, will be open from June 15 to July 15, 2026.
The program aims to strengthen the local economy by providing entrepreneurs with structured workshops and one-on-one mentorship. Selected participants have the opportunity to receive a grant of up to $5,000 to help launch, purchase, or expand a business within Sarnia-Lambton.
According to Matthew Slotwinski, CEO of SLEP, the initiative offers practical support during pivotal stages of development. The goal is to help residents make informed decisions that establish a clear path toward long-term success in the region.
While the financial assistance is a key component, program organizers emphasize that the mentorship and peer connections often provide the most lasting value. Alison Minato, Manager of the Business Enterprise Centre, noted that the program allows advisors to see business ideas take root as participants build stronger foundations.
BoWaine Ma, a 2025 participant and co-founder of Siren Section, said the mentorship challenged her to think critically about operations and long-term vision. She credited the program with helping her business create a more meaningful impact within the local community.
The 2026 intake is open to individuals starting, growing, or buying a business in Sarnia-Lambton. The program has previously supported various sectors, including retail, manufacturing, and creative enterprises.
